Photo a Day or Project 365?

It looks like I've joined a growing number of people doing what they call Project Life or Project 365. Most are creating scrapbook pages for each week with a photo (or more) for each day. After my 2008 project in which I did not only a photo but also a layout each day I didn't think I'd do it again. Then in 2010 I joined in on a project to scrap each month. That was really nice, but I ran out of steam after March 2011. But I've got a support group again and think this version will work for 2013. Here are the first four weeks (week one being only five days.) You've really got to click on the images to have any chance of reading the text.

New Year's Mockingbird

One of our traditions is birding on New Year's Day to start a new list of birds seen in the year. We saw several mockingbirds this year and one had an attractive fence background in the photos I took They seemed meant for the week's AnnaLift.

Deer Trek - in our yard!!

It can hardly be a good sign for gardeners when deer are hanging out around our little city lots. They were quite a sight in the middle of the night/Friday morning though. While I saw the four deer, Dick only saw these tracks, but they do tell a story. We even followed them a bit in the neighborhood. They were headed up toward a main street.

Heritage Photos in the Snow

Snow is predicted to arrive rather soon. Not looking forward to that, but it seems like a good time to share two pages I put together recently. The first is my mother and me when I was a baby. It sure looks cold! The song was even written the year I was born. The second is Dick's Aunt Gladys as a young woman, maybe 1939 or 1940. Her grinning in the snow always makes me smile. She was a super lady.

Drawing #35 - Northern Delights

It might be something in the air that the new drawing has a bit of the holiday about it. My intent had nothing really to do with the season, but was influenced by birds we're seeing and a new tube of paint in alizarin crimson. I even like to say its name and could hardly wait to open it and spread some color. I've again dipped into my box of old stamps and used four versions of a Swiss stamp of a landscape. I both scanned and photographed the drawing, again the small sketchbook size. There is so much greater depth and brighter color in the photo version so that is what I'm posting here with its digital framing.

Drawing #34 - a better look

Before wrapping, packing and shipping "Texas Rocks" I took some quick photos to add to yesterday's scans. The photos show so much more of the texture and better color, so I thought I'd share the different look. You can see it wasn't lying quite flat, but it is still an improvement over the scanned version, I think.

Drawing #34 - Texas Rocks

You could take the title in different ways, but I refrained from writing ZZ Top in the drawing and stayed with the literal version because this was designed for a geologist who lives in Texas. Since she doesn't follow this blog (or even know about it, I think) I can post it now for the rest of you to enjoy. The collage elements come from a photo with a rocky outcropping of mountains and a map of Texas from an old atlas. Ideas for this came to me all at once and just about drew itself. I'm also grateful for a Sharpie paint marker that I recently found. It goes over everything very nicely. I've used it some on the larger piece that's in the works. The image of this one is about 5 x 8 inches.
