Iris About to Bloom

It seems like summer is here. We got up to an official 85 F. on Sunday, all the trees are fully leafed out and lilacs, dogwood, and so forth are fading away. The grackles nesting behind us have fledged, I think I heard fledgling starlings the other day and robins are feeding young in the nest. It wasn't really that warm today, but it was so nice having open windows and hearing an oriole singing. Meanwhile, Dick is eagerly awaiting the first blooms of an iris my sister gave him. He had greatly admired its very dark color and elegant form. She warned him not to expect it to bloom the first year which was last year. She was right about that, but it now has two bloom stalks with three buds showing on each. The first one will open very soon. I thought a free template from "Dumpty" would be fun for a photo of it today.

  1. It´s always exciting to watch a new flower appearing and this iris looks and sounds like a real treasure. Your photo fits so nicely into the template with the white blossoms isolated on the left and the other two sections given over to the star of the page.
Having shown us the bud, you do realise I hope that you´re now obliged to show it in full bloom!

  2. How exciting! I'm posting a LO today using one of Helen's QPs from Time Began In A Garden titled Anticipation. Each year I wait in eager anticipation to see my Japanese Iris bloom. At least I think that is what it is...maybe your sister could tell me. I planted it in 1996 when we first moved into our new house. The past few weeks have been so busy...I have truly enjoyed my relaxing morning viewing all your wonderful pages. Love the template you used here. Think I'll scrapped a page or two before starting in on cleaning my house!
