Back to the small format, this one is named for a bit of coastal Washington in a map from an old atlas. The drawing inspiration was actually avian but Dick has a great theme for it of a Hobbit-like house in the hills. Shiny paper and sometimes even the acrylic paint can be too slick for markers. I used a clear gesso over all of this but ran into problems with pen points picking it up and clogging. I like the matte look though. I love this process with the added bits of experimentation.
The actual page may be a bit darker than this scan but it seems to me that the angle from which I view it alters how dark or light it looks. Maybe the gesso changes the light too. As always, click on the image to see it larger.
This turned out great! Love the little bits of paper and the painted background with your markings, it does look like a hobbit-like house on a hill. I like that you are experimenting. :) At some point, you might want to try some of the textured mediums like the white flakes and the black lava, I like them alot, however they are glossy.
ReplyDeleteThis is neat! I can see the Hobbit-house, but the colors and shapes on the right make me think of doves. The bird is spreading her wings over all. Your drawings are so fun because they can be so many things depending on where you are at the time.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn´t the hobbit house which immediately struck me but the bird which looks to me like the dominant feature. I can see its wings and tail feathers clearly and, with a little imagination, even its eye and beak. Beautiful colours and, as always, beautifully designed.
ReplyDeleteOhhh...I really like this one and it's colors make it a perfect match for my den. I too see a dove which brings to mind memories of my Dad. In his later years, Dad would sprinkle seeds on the front walk and then sit at the table and watch through the huge picture window the mourning and turtle dove come in to feed. Thanks for the memories!
