My new drawing could as easily be called "Rocky Surf" as it was inspired by our sighting of Surf and Black Scoters on Saturday. The water was relatively calm when we saw them, but we've seen them in rough surf along rock jetties on the New Jersey coast in other Novembers when things were quite different. I've again used a bit of collage and acrylic paints. The gray color is a paint called iridescent pewter. It imparted a sheen even where nearly transparent. The scan did a fair job of reproduction, but the sheen is a bit elusive.
Very nice job Jean. Are you painting first and building your drawing on top of it or adding color when you are done, or both? I think this turned out great, I bet it looks fantastic in real life where you can see the sheen.
ReplyDeleteI found something cool today that you have got to see, take a look at what this artist does with "ink blots"... http://creativeeveryday.com/
ReplyDeleteDeb, thanks for the link to the inkblot and create every day site. Very interesting indeed! About my paint, I haven't done many yet, so it is developing. I still start with pencil shapes. Then I add whatever collage and some paint. My first inking is now with pen nibs and acrylic ink. Then I work a bit with the Sharpie pen. So far I've had to repeat paint, ink and finish with pen. I'm still working in a 7x10 inch sketchbook but thinking about the possibility of trying a larger format.
ReplyDeleteNeat Jean! The colors and lines work well together. I do wish the sheen would show up, but technology isn't that good yet.
ReplyDeleteInteresting site, Deb. Thanks for the reference.
